Most EM series pumps come in one- and two-stage versions. One-stage pumps have a single pumping mechanism; two-stage devices have two pumps in series, an arrangement which allows a much higher ultimate vacuum to be achieved.

Smaller EM series pumps are compact and quiet, with low energy consumption and low operating temperatures. The E2M0.7, for example, features an extremely low sound level - 43 dB(A). Fitted in a cabinet, the pump is virtually inaudible and the low operating temperature minimizes the heat load on the equipment.

They are adaptable too - where rotary vane pumps are usually mounted vertically with the inlet at the top, smaller EM models have alternative inlet positions at the side for ease of connection where space is tight.
